Folklore suggests that Chanderi was founded by Lord Krishna's cousin Shishupala. It is produced in the area of Chanderi, Madhya Pradesh. It is known for its distinct bootis and threadwork on fine-weaves in silk and cotton. Usually found in light to moderate hues, chanderi fabrics are decorated with gold, silver or copper coated threads to create small patterns known as bootis. These grandeur look of this fabric makes it ideal for weddings and important grand functions.
